Alabama's Organ & Tissue Alliance

Legacy of Hope Sets New Organizational Record in 2022

Legacy of Hope is proud to share the news, we saved more lives through organ donation in 2022 than ever before! We coordinated 292 organ donors resulting in 714 organs transplanted. We also healed more lives through tissue donation with 553 tissue donors.

We are proud of the role we played in achieving the national milestones as well. The U.S. surpassed one million organ transplants in 2022.

“I’m proud of our committed team who share their talent, compassion and dedication to support our mission of saving and healing lives through organ and tissue donation,” said Chris Meeks, Executive Director of Legacy of Hope. “These milestones would not be possible without the collaboration of our partners. We recognize the support of our hospital partners, medical examiners, coroners, the legal system, the community and so many others. We have surpassed three million Alabamians on the donor registry which is directly impacted by the positive efforts of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the support of our licensing offices.

Most importantly, this achievement would not be possible without the generosity of our donors and their families. It is their commitment to helping others that makes transplantation possible. As we look to the future, please join us in our goal to save and heal more lives in 2023.”
